The orphan child reminds us of
our relationship with the father... of our identity as
Christians.
"God allows Himself to be seen
according to the deifying gift and His energy, according to the
grace of adoption..."
"Adoption effects in the adopted
the most radical transformation imaginable; those who attain it
become thereby uncreated, unoriginate and indescribable, although by
their own nature, they have come to be out of nothing... God unites
Himself to the worthy to the point of completely dwelling in them in
their totality, in such a way that they dwell completely in Him..."
"Adoption is that relationship
which God was placed to establish between Himself and His people in
preference to all other nations.
It is the nature and condition of the
true disciples of Christ, who by receiving the Spirit of God become
the sons of God. It is the blessed state looked for in the future...
the consumate condition of the sons of God which will render it
evident that they are the sons of God."
"Christians are sons of God,
children, and heirs by adoption. Thus we become
like God, not by nature but according to God's grace or uncreated
energy. Adoption moves from fact to experience as the Holy Spirit,
stirring in our hearts, prompts us to pray to the Father with the
intimate Abba, "Daddy". This process of growth as children
of God the Orthodox Church calls deification."
